Father Faces Lengthy Prison Term After Fatal Collision

A 39-year-old van driver has been told to expect a substantial prison sentence after he admitted causing the death of a seven-year-old girl in a tragic road collision. Veselin Dudenski entered his guilty plea during a hearing at Lincoln Crown Court this morning.

Details of the Tragic Incident

Elsie Gascoigne, from Metheringham in Lincolnshire, was travelling home from a shopping trip in January when the vehicle she was in collided with Dudenski's white Citroen Relay van. The serious collision occurred on the B1202 at Nocton, Lincolnshire.

Emergency services rushed the young girl to hospital following the crash between the blue Kia and the van. Despite medical efforts, Elsie succumbed to her serious injuries in the early hours of the following day.

Court Proceedings and Custody Decision

Appearing before Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight, Dudenski, of Branston, Lincolnshire, pleaded guilty to two offences. He admitted causing Elsie's death by dangerous driving and a second charge of causing serious injury to an adult who cannot be identified during the same incident.

Defence barrister John McNally requested bail for his client, describing Dudenski as a father who had travelled to court by car. He also applied for a pre-sentence probation report. However, Judge Sjolin Knight rejected both applications, remanding Dudenski into custody.

The judge noted that Dudenski was 'convicted by his own pleas' and described his decision to drive to court as 'remarkable'. She confirmed he is facing a custodial sentence of some length for the two serious offences.

Awaiting Sentencing

Veselin Dudenski will remain in custody until he returns to Lincoln Crown Court on 28 November for sentencing. The court will consider the full circumstances of the case before determining the final sentence for the fatal collision that claimed young Elsie's life.
