A man described as “dangerous” has been jailed for more than nine years for raping a teenage girl in Cambridge. Steven Coulson, 32, of Newton Close, Cottenham, South Cambridgeshire, was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court on Thursday, August 6.
The attack
Coulson got into bed with the 13-year-old victim in the early hours of January 8, 2024. He began touching her, and although she asked him to stop, he continued. When she tried to get out of bed, he pulled her back and raped her.
The victim reported the incident to police, and Coulson handed himself in at Parkside Police Station on January 10.
Investigation and trial
During interview, Coulson denied raping the victim. However, he was found guilty of rape and assault of a female 13 and over by penetration with part of the body.
Detective Sergeant Molly Halksworth, who investigated, said: “Coulson is a dangerous man who took advantage of the victim so I’m glad he’s been brought to justice.
“I would also like to pay tribute to the victim’s bravery in coming forward and supporting us with a prosecution.”
Sentence
Coulson was jailed for nine years and nine months. He was also handed an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order, and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
