Russell Brand moved just under £9 million from one of his companies, meaning his victims could miss out on cash, it is reported. The disgraced star transferred £8.7 million out of his TV and stand-up firm in 2025, according to The Sun, even though he always insisted that he was innocent of sexual offences.
Conviction and Civil Claims
It is thought that Brand will be subject to civil claims in the United Kingdom and United States following his conviction in the week, with potential six-figure payouts. He was found guilty of a rape and three counts of sexual assault at Southwark Crown Court. He also resigned as a director of firms.
Brand is set to be sentenced tomorrow (Monday, November 9). It comes after the same newspaper reported that prosecutors in the US could also decide to pursue Brand with criminal action. A civil lawsuit in the country has been filed by a woman who claims that he sexually assaulted her on the set of the 2011 comedy film Arthur.
Lawsuit Allegations
The lawsuit claims that Brand said having sex with multiple women was part of the “lineage of celebrated male behaviour”, and the comedian and actor suggested that being promiscuous was fine because it “defined famous men”. Moreover, it is purported that he claimed he knew about consent because he had been “in a lot of bathrooms with people he doesn’t know very well”.
He is facing other civil claims in Britain — one has already been lodged — and in the US. There has not been enough change in media organisations to stop celebrities like Brand from preying on women, the Culture Secretary, Lisa Nandy, warned today. She added: “Hand on heart, I don’t think we can say that this couldn’t happen today. In fact, I would wager that this is probably happening today, and I don’t think that the industry is doing enough to tackle it”.
Further Allegations and Sentencing
Brand was found not guilty of two further rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault, but police have since revealed that more allegations against the former TV and radio host are being investigated. The head of the Metropolitan Police, Sir Mark Rowley, said he “wouldn’t be surprised if many, many more come forward”.
Brand has spent three nights in custody and will be sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, when he has been warned by senior judge Mr Justice Bennathan to expect a “significant” jail term. A woman whose relationship with Brand was the focus of the Sachsgate scandal has urged him to take responsibility after his rape conviction.
Georgina Baillie was thrust into the spotlight when the comic and Jonathan Ross left lewd messages about her liaison with Brand on her grandfather, Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs’s answerphone during a 2008 radio show. Speaking to the Daily Mail, Ms Baillie said “justice has been served” following Brand’s conviction. “Although he never raped or assaulted me, as I have always said I didn’t know what happened in the privacy of the rooms that the victims and Russell were in and their evidence was compelling,” she said. “He has been found guilty and I now want Russell to right the wrongs.”
