Brazilian GP results updated after three post-race penalties

The Sao Paulo Grand Prix final classification has been revised after the stewards confirmed three post-race penalties, though the podium places remain unchanged. Lando Norris took his first victory since the Dutch Grand Prix in August, capitalising on the upgrades McLaren introduced for this race. The only mishap for him came after the chequered flag, when he smashed his champagne bottle on the podium by hitting it too hard against the floor.

Mercedes secure constructors' title

It was also a day of celebration for Mercedes, who secured the constructors' championship. They did not have a smooth race – Kimi Antonelli led for a time but lost places by going off track multiple times, while George Russell had a spin at the pit lane exit – but the result was enough to get them over the line in the championship.

Max Verstappen delivered another standout performance, cutting through the pack from 21st on the grid due to engine penalties to finish second behind only Norris. It was comparable to his win from 17th on the grid at Interlagos two years ago.

Penalties applied to three drivers

Lewis Hamilton also started towards the back, in 20th, but Ferrari struggled for pace in both wet and dry conditions. The seven-time world champion was further hampered when he misunderstood his team's call to pit when rain fell late in the race, leaving him on slick tyres on a wet track, which cost him time and two places in the end.

There were three post-race penalties, the most consequential of which was for Hamilton's team-mate. Charles Leclerc finished seventh on the road but was later demoted to eighth below Liam Lawson, for being guilty of causing a collision with the New Zealander while battling for position in the latter stages of the grand prix.

The other two penalties were worth five seconds each, both for unsafe releases in the pit lane. Antonelli received one and Oliver Bearman the other, though neither affected the final result as both were more than five seconds clear of the car behind them on track.
