Kyle Haggerty, a 38-year-old from Barry, has been handed a three-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) at Cardiff Magistrates' Court following a spree of shoplifting offences that saw him steal goods worth £1,685 from stores across the town.
Haggerty carried out 14 thefts in 40 days between May and June 2026, targeting items such as meat, coffee and laundry products. His offending accelerated during June, with multiple offences committed within days of each other and some occurring on the same day, according to South Wales Police.
Court Conviction and Sentence
On September 30, Haggerty was convicted of 14 shoplifting offences and handed a four-month sentence, which was suspended for 18 months. As part of the CBO, he is now banned from entering any retail premises on Holton Road and Broad Street in Barry.
The order also prohibits him from entering any Home Bargains, Sainsbury's, Co-op, Halfords, One Stop and Pets at Home stores. A broader ban from any retail premises across the town applies if he is in company with three other individuals named as Matthew Moore, Lee Green, Stuart Gorry and Lewis Payn.
Impact of the Order
If Haggerty breaches the criminal behaviour order, he faces being sent to prison. South Wales Police said in a statement: "The aim of a CBO is to prevent crime and protect the community, local workers, and members of the public from continued distress, disruption, and potential harm."
The statement added: "This case demonstrates our commitment to tackling shoplifting. Any breaches and incidents should be reported to police."
