A gas explosion at a holiday park in Lake Conjola, New South Wales, has left five people injured, including two children under the age of five. Emergency services were called to the BIG4 Ingenia Holidays park at around 7.30am on Saturday, January 30, following reports of a barbecue blast.
Multiple paramedic units and an ambulance rescue helicopter responded to the scene. A man in his 30s was airlifted to Wollongong Hospital with facial injuries and is in a stable condition. A woman in her 30s was taken to Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital with abdominal injuries and is also stable. The two children are being treated for minor injuries.
Footage from the scene shows rubble and a destroyed barbecue area, with twisted metal and belongings scattered around. An eyewitness described the explosion as a 'huge bang,' stating that a holidaying family had been preparing breakfast on the barbecues when the blast occurred.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson confirmed the incident is ongoing. BIG4 Ingenia Holidays park has been contacted for comment.
