Two men have been charged with the murder of a London footballer. Hendon FC player Ezekiel Williams, 26, died in hospital from head injuries after an incident in the early hours of Sunday in Midsummer Boulevard, Milton Keynes.
Thames Valley Police said Sameull Hussein, 28, of no fixed abode, and Arman Uddin, 21, of Saxon Road, Luton, were both charged with one count of murder on Thursday night. Both men were taken into custody ahead of an appearance at Milton Keynes Magistrates' Court later.
Third man released on bail
A third man, 30, also from Luton, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been released on bail while the investigation continues. Mr Williams was taken to hospital after he was injured in an incident at around 2am on Sunday. The 26-year-old was taken to hospital, but died on Monday.
Detectives from Thames Valley Police have asked for witnesses or anyone with more information to come forward. Detective Inspector Rob Underhill from the force said: “We are continuing to support the family of Ezekiel, and our thoughts remain with them, and all of Ezekiel's close circle of friends.” He added: "It is clear from tributes that have been paid that he was a hugely respected and loved person."
Club pays tribute to player
Londoner Mr Williams had played for several clubs in his time as a young footballer. He joined Hendon FC in north London in September and was described by the club as a “humble, unassuming and generous individual with a razor-sharp wit.” The club added in a social media post that Mr Williams "was beginning to carve a place for himself in midfield with a series of hard-working and selfless displays that summed him up as a person".
Last month Mr Williams scored his first goal for the club against Jersey Bulls. He had also played for Kettering Town FC, FC Romania, Northwood, and Harrow Borough. A GoFundMe page has been set up in his memory, raising more than £17,000 as of Friday morning. In the fundraiser, Mr Williams was described as “a selfless man that was known for helping others whenever possible”.
