Flowers and tributes have been laid in memory of Jess Turnbull at Northumbria Police's headquarters. The 19-year-old officer tragically passed away yesterday after allegedly being struck by a black Mercedes CLC while responding to a collision on the A189 in Cramlington, Northumberland, on Monday night. The Mercedes was not connected to the original crash.
A 73-year-old man who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving was taken to hospital but later discharged. He has now been re-arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on bail.
A flag at Northumbria Police's headquarters in Wallsend has been flying at half mast since the officer's death. On Friday, tributes and bouquets of flowers were left at the HQ. One heartfelt note read: "Jess served with courage, honour and dedication, protecting others at the highest cost. Jess, your bravery will never be forgotten and your legacy will live on in the lives you've touched. Your sacrifice will always be remembered."
The community has come together to honour the young officer, leaving floral tributes and messages of support at the Middle Engine Lane Police Station in Wallsend. The outpouring of grief reflects the deep respect for Turnbull's service and sacrifice.
