A teenage boy has been detained on suspicion of attempted murder after two women were struck by a car in Blyth, Northumberland. The incident occurred at approximately 1:25 am on Friday, June 14, 2026, on Keelmans Terrace, near the junction with Beaumont Street.
Details of the Incident
Police were alerted that a vehicle had been driven towards a group of women standing on a path. The car hit two women, both in their 30s, before fleeing the scene. One of the victims sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, where she remains in a life-threatening condition. The second woman suffered non-serious injuries.
Arrest and Investigation
Later that Friday, a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He has since been released on police bail while further enquiries are carried out. Northumbria Police has launched a full investigation and is appealing for witnesses, believing those involved are known to each other.

Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Barr of the force's Major Investigation Team said: "This has clearly been a very serious incident which has resulted in two people being injured, with one left in a life-threatening condition. The investigation is at an early stage, but we do believe that those involved are known to each other.
