North East trio among four charged over rural meth lab conspiracy

Three North East men are among four people who have been charged in connection with an alleged meth lab in rural farmland.

In total nine men now stand accused of an alleged conspiracy to produce methamphetamine, a class A drug, from a farm in rural Warwickshire, near Furnace End.

Further Charges Announced

Five Mexican nationals appeared in court in connection with the incident last month, and now police have confirmed a further four men have been charged.

The charges come in relation to an investigation into an alleged crime group manufacturing the narcotic at a lab in the area, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said.

Kenneth Burton, from Co Durham, Paul Harkness Mawby and Anthony Devine, both from Stockton-on-Tees, all aged 34, and 36-year-old Mohammed Khan, of Birmingham, were arrested on Thursday as NCA officers conducted searches in Birmingham and the North East.

Court Appearances Scheduled

Burton, of The Meadows, Wynyard, Harkness Mawby, of Pacific Drive, Thornaby, and Devine, of Crosswell Park, Ingleby Barwick, will all appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, while Khan, of Lea Road, Sparkhill, will appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court.

Five Mexican nationals appeared at Warwick Crown Court on September 10 to deny a charge of conspiracy to produce methamphetamine.

Alejandro Ambriz, 45, Victor Ramirez, 47, Fausto Beltran, 33, Lioncio Moso Borja, 37, and 44-year-old Jose Nunez Angolo were arrested by the NCA in mid-August and were told they would face a trial in February next year.

Ambriz is from the Michoacan area of Mexico, while the remaining defendants are from Culiacan in the Sinaloa region of north-west Mexico, the court heard.
