MoJ Denies Stabbing Rumours of Baby Preston's Killer

The Ministry of Justice has dismissed social media rumours that Jamie Varley, the paedophile and murderer of 13-month-old Preston Davey, was stabbed in prison. A spokesperson confirmed the claims are 'definitely not true.'

Background to the Case

Jamie Varley, 37, a former teacher at South Shore Academy in Blackpool, was handed a whole-life order last month after being found guilty of sexually abusing and murdering baby Preston. His ex-partner, Christopher McGowan-Fazakerley, received a 25-year sentence for allowing the death of a child, child cruelty, and sexual assault.

Transfer to HMP Wakefield

Following sentencing, Varley was transferred to HMP Wakefield, the UK's highest-security prison, often referred to as 'Monster Mansion' due to its notorious inmates. His arrival sparked widespread rumours on social media that he had been attacked, stabbed, and hospitalised in a serious but stable condition.

MoJ Response

The Ministry of Justice has now dismissed these claims. A spokesperson told Lancs Live that the stabbing rumours are 'definitely not true.' Despite this, Varley is unlikely to have an easy time behind bars. A recent inspection report highlighted deteriorating conditions at HMP Wakefield, including ageing buildings, cramped accommodation, and parts of the facility falling into disrepair.

Varley's Behaviour in Prison

Insiders claim Varley is 'not coping' and 'refusing to leave his cell.' He is believed to be in segregation, with guards monitoring him 24/7 amid fears he is a suicide risk. He is confined to his cell for most of the day but is offered minimal time for exercise, which he has refused.

A source said: 'Officers are keeping close tabs on him but that won’t last forever as they don’t have enough staff. They have even offered him separate exercise - although he hasn’t been taking it. He will not leave, he is terrified. But he is only making it worse for himself. He will have to leave eventually, and it is better to get it done with early in the hope it can become normal for him on some level. He is just drawing more attention to himself.'
