Caernarfon Man Brutally Beat Brother and Pointed Gun at Family
Man Beat Brother, Pointed Gun at Family in Caernarfon

Jamie Williams, 24, of Chapel Street, Caernarfon, has been sentenced to five years and seven months in prison after a brutal attack on his younger brother during which he believed he had killed him. Williams then pointed a gun at family members who tried to intervene.

The Attack

The incident occurred on April 18, 2026, at the home of the younger brother's girlfriend. Williams had been drinking and initially engaged in playfighting with his brother. However, the situation escalated into a violent assault. Williams struck his brother with a modified imitation firearm, repeatedly punched and stamped on him, even after believing he had fatally injured him.

Prosecutor Emmalyne Downing described the attack as relentless. The victim suffered a swollen face and two black eyes but survived. Williams admitted to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of a firearm with intent and without a certificate, possession of ammunition without a certificate, converting an imitation firearm into a usable firearm, and possession of cannabis.

Family Threatened

When the younger brother's girlfriend and an older brother tried to stop the attack, Williams threatened to kill them if they contacted the police and pointed the gun at them. He brandished the weapon for about five minutes and attempted to load a bullet into it.

Police later searched Williams' grandmother's house, where they found firearms under the floorboards, including the converted imitation firearm, two non-dangerous weapons, and a box of ammunition.

Background and Sentencing

The court heard Williams had 13 convictions for 27 offences, including eight for violence. Defence lawyer Duncan Bould said Williams had a chaotic upbringing and spent much time in care. He also had mental health difficulties and planned to learn bricklaying while serving his sentence.

Judge Nicola Jones remarked on the vicious and sustained nature of the attack, noting that Williams had the gun inches from the face of the younger brother's girlfriend. Williams was sentenced to five years and seven months, with half served in custody and the rest on licence. A forfeiture order was made for the destruction of the gun, ammunition, and cannabis, and he must pay a statutory surcharge.
