Christopher Moran, a man of no fixed address in Lancashire, has been banned from entering every branch of Tesco, Co-op, Sainsbury's, B&M, TK Maxx, Booths and Trespass across the United Kingdom for a period of five years. The sweeping ban was imposed following his guilty plea to 10 counts of theft at Preston Magistrates Court.
Court Sentence and Criminal Behaviour Order
Magistrates sentenced Moran to 12 weeks in custody, to run concurrently with a separate 52-week prison sentence he is already serving. Additionally, he received a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) targeting his spree of thefts committed across South Ribble and Preston. Under the order, Moran is also prohibited from entering areas of Preston Marina, Navigation Way and the entire Penwortham exclusion zone.
Police Statement on CBOs
A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: “CBOs are used to target individuals who are repeat demand generators and have been identified as often engaging in criminality in a specified area. They are given to people who have been convicted of an offence with the aim to prevent them engaging in further criminal behaviour.”
Immediate Compliance Required
The order further stipulates that Moran must immediately leave any retail premises if instructed by staff. Officers stated that the restrictions are designed to disrupt his persistent offending and protect businesses from further harm. The ban covers all branches of the named retailers nationwide, making it one of the most extensive retail exclusion orders in recent memory.
