Lilly Anne Jones, a 14-year-old girl, died from multiple stab wounds to her neck and trunk, an inquest at Gwent Coroner's Court has heard. Her body was discovered in the Duffryn Park area of Blaina on June 22 after she was reported missing two days earlier.
Discovery and Injuries
The teenager was found shortly after 10pm on June 22 in a woodland location near the bowls club in Pilgrims Park, adjacent to the A467. She had injuries to her chest and neck and was pronounced dead at 10.45pm. Senior coroner Caroline Saunders stated that a post-mortem examination by Dr Richard Jones gave a provisional cause of death as 1A, multiple stab wounds to the neck and trunk.
Missing Person Report
Lilly, from Blaina, was last seen in High Street, Blaina, at around 6.50pm on June 20. She was reported missing from her home address that evening. Parts of Pilgrims Park were cordoned off after her body was found, and floral tributes were left by members of the public.
Legal Proceedings
A 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on June 29 charged with Lilly's murder. He did not enter a plea. Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke fixed a trial date beginning November 23, expected to last four weeks. The youth, from the Blaenau Gwent area, was remanded into custody. Police described him as white British.
Inquest Adjourned
Coroner Saunders adjourned the inquest for further inquiries and set a provisional inquest date of April 6, 2027. She said: 'The medical cause of death he has provided me with is 1A, multiple stab wounds to the neck and trunk. The matter will be adjourned so that further inquiries can be made.'
