More than 50 Wirral Council workers will stage a three-day strike next week in a long-running dispute over pay. Staff at Wirral Evolutions, a council-owned company providing day-care for adults with disabilities, will walk out on Monday, September 14.
Union says staff underpaid for three years
The trade union UNISON says the workers are performing duties above their pay grade and should be fairly rewarded. Staff initially raised concerns about being underpaid around three years ago and staged a walkout for the first time last October.
The strikes next week will take the total number of strike days to 32.

UNISON North West regional organiser Angela Blundell said: "Wirral Council has been underpaying these workers for too long. Staff are passionate about providing the best level of service they can and are deeply committed to the people they support. But they need to be paid fairly for their work. Going on strike is always a difficult decision, but it's a necessary one when bosses refuse to listen to legitimate concerns."
In response to the announced strikes, a Wirral Council spokesperson said: "We remain committed to open and transparent engagement with staff and trade unions as we work towards a resolution of the dispute."
