Three highly dangerous prisoners have broken out of a Georgia jail, sparking a major manhunt involving local police and federal agents.
Details of the Early Morning Jailbreak
The escape occurred at the DeKalb County Jail and was discovered at around 6am on Monday during a routine security check. The facility's entrance and exit were immediately sealed, and authorities have surrounded the perimeter of the building.
The fugitives have been identified as Stevenson Charles, 24, Yusuf Minor, 31, and Naod Yohannes, 25. Police warn that the men may be armed and have urged members of the public to exercise extreme caution and avoid any contact with them.
Serious Charges and Ongoing Manhunt
The inmates face a catalogue of severe charges. Stevenson Charles was charged with murder and armed robbery and, according to U.S. Marshals, was serving a life sentence at the time of the escape. Yusuf Minor faces two counts of armed robbery and two counts of firearm possession. Naod Yohannes was charged with assault, arson, and unlawful acts of violence in a penal institution.
In a statement, Sheriff Melody M. Maddox said: "We take this breach very seriously and are working diligently to ensure these individuals are safely returned to custody as quickly as possible."
The sheriff's office is conducting the search in collaboration with the DeKalb police and the U.S. Marshals Service.
Public Warning and Investigation
This remains an active and fluid situation. The primary focus for law enforcement is locating and apprehending the three escaped inmates. The public is once again reminded to remain vigilant and report any sightings immediately to the authorities by calling 999.
