A wanted man who spent six hours on a roof in Middleton town centre has been escorted down by police and is being assessed before being recalled to prison.

Police and fire services were called to Oldham Road in Middleton town centre at about 1pm on Wednesday, July 22, following reports of a man on a roof. The stand-off ended shortly before 7pm, when a Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman confirmed the man had been escorted off the roof.
Emergency response
A police cordon was established at Market Place, with officers blocking the road from both ends and buses being diverted. Images from the scene showed a large emergency services presence, including police, fire crews, and paramedics. Additional police units, including officers equipped with shields, later arrived.
Outcome
The man, who was wanted by police, is to be returned on recall to prison. He was being assessed for any injuries after being taken off the roof.
