Police and fire services were called to Oldham Road in Middleton town centre at about 1pm on Wednesday, July 22, following reports of a man on a roof. The stand-off ended shortly before 7pm, when a Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman confirmed the man had been escorted off the roof.

A police cordon was established at Market Place, with officers blocking the road from both ends and buses being diverted. Images from the scene showed a large emergency services presence, including police, fire crews, and paramedics. Additional police units, including officers equipped with shields, later arrived.
