Twelve criminals from the Merseyside region were jailed over the past week, receiving a combined total of 57 years and 10 months behind bars. Among those sentenced were a man who dumped a killer's body in a wheelie bin, a pyjama thief, and two drug dealing brothers. Also locked up were a pervert who claimed he had been "set up" after offering to pay a schoolgirl £100 for sex, a fake British Gas worker, a sacked carer who robbed and burgled his former patients, and a disgraced scout leader.
Pyjama thief and drug dealing brothers
Kelvin Jones, of Rawlins Street, aged 40, was jailed for 46 months and banned from driving for 70 months. His crime spree included threatening to stab Tesco workers, brandishing a knife outside the Adelphi Hotel, and writing off a carer's car. He admitted two counts of theft from shop, assault by beating, common assault, criminal damage, possession of a bladed article in a public place, burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, theft, failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.
Paul and Keith Kelly, both of King Avenue in Bootle, aged 40 and 37, operated a prolific heroin and cocaine supply business known as the "Tommy Line" across the north west. Paul Kelly, a five-time convicted drug dealer, was jailed for 80 months after admitting being concerned in the supply of heroin and cocaine. Keith Kelly was handed three years and four months after pleading guilty to being concerned in the supply of heroin and cocaine and possession of heroin and cocaine with intent to supply.
Pervert, Lord of the Dance thief, and violent assaults
Saeed Salashoor, of no fixed address, aged 39, offered to pay a schoolgirl £100 for sex and claimed he had been "set up". The 13-year-old recorded his comments and reported him to police. He admitted one count of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and was jailed for two years.
Jake Salter, of Heathfield Road in Wavertree, aged 32, stole a performer's engagement ring from her dressing room at the Empire Theatre while she was on stage. He attempted to pawn the ring the following day but told staff what his job was, leading police to him. He admitted theft, breaching a suspended sentence order, and failing to surrender to bail, and was jailed for 22 months.
Joseph Brown, of Manningham Road, aged 40, swiped at his ex-girlfriend with a meat cleaver after accusing her of murdering their late son. He admitted making threats with an offensive weapon in a private place, assault by beating, criminal damage, and breaching a restraining order. He was jailed for two-and-a-half years and handed a new indefinite restraining order.
Wheelie bin body, scout leader, and other cases
Steven Wales, of Pope Street in Bootle, aged 61, dumped a killer's body in a wheelie bin. Paul Smith was found dead in an overgrown garden outside a derelict house on Thirlmere Road in Everton, having died of a drug overdose in Wales's bath. Wales admitted one count of preventing a lawful and decent burial and was jailed for 28 months.
Aaron Ashbrook, of Windermere Avenue in Warrington, aged 59, was jailed for 12 years for sexually abusing a 10-year-old boy. He was found guilty of five counts of indecent assault and three of making indecent images of children following a trial.
Haneef Chowdhury, of no fixed address, aged 29, was jailed for 14 years and handed an indefinite restraining order after admitting robbery. He was part of a gang that threatened to cut a five-year-old boy's throat and stole thousands of pounds in cash after breaking into a family's flat through the roof. He had visited the address days earlier posing as a British Gas worker.
Ediongseyene Essien, of no fixed address, aged 32, robbed and burgled five of his former patients after losing his job. He admitted two counts of robbery, four of burglary, and a charge of fraud, and was jailed for eight years. He was handed restraining orders banning him from contacting his victims for the next decade.
David and Carl Hollis, identical twins, carried out shop theft sprees at Home Bargains, Sainsbury's, and Tesco. David was sentenced to 11 months in prison, while Carl was handed a total of 22 weeks behind bars.
