Sean 'Diddy' Combs, once known as Puff Daddy and P Diddy, is now serving a 50-month sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Fort Dix in New Jersey. The 56-year-old former hip-hop mogul was convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering charges following a 2025 trial.
Prison job as chaplain's assistant
Combs has taken on the role of chaplain's assistant, a sought-after job within the prison. His duties include maintaining the religious library, performing administrative tasks, and cleaning the chaplain's office. His publicist, Juda Engelmayer, said Diddy described the environment as 'warm, respectful, and rewarding'.
Drug treatment programme
Combs is enrolled in Fort Dix's Residential Drug Abuse Programme (RDAP). Successful completion can reduce an inmate's sentence by up to a year. During sentencing, Combs admitted to drug addiction, telling the court he was 'sober for the first time in 25 years' and that 'prison will change you or kill you. I choose to live.'
Fitness and helping fellow inmates
Combs spends much of his free time exercising, walking laps, working out in the gym, and playing basketball. He also helps inmates in the prison library, recommending books. Engelmayer noted that Combs has become deeply involved in preparing his legal challenge, saying, 'He's become like a paralegal, if not a lawyer already.'
Property sale and appeal
Combs sold his Star Island mansion for $55 million. The property, nearly 8,000 square feet, was next to another Miami home raided by federal agents in March 2024. Investigators seized over 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant, along with narcotics. His legal team appealed the conviction in December 2025, arguing for an overturned verdict or reduced sentence. The appeal was heard in April 2026, but no ruling has been announced. He also sought a presidential pardon unsuccessfully.
Release date moved forward
Originally expected to be released in June 2028, the Federal Bureau of Prisons now lists Combs's release date as February 23, 2028. Officials have not explained the change. Combs continues working, participating in rehabilitation, and awaiting his appeal outcome.
