Manhunt Underway as Attempted Murderer, 43, Escapes Thorn Cross Prison
Attempted Murderer Escapes Prison, Public Warned

A major police manhunt is underway after a convicted attempted murderer unlawfully left a prison in Cheshire. Kieran Cameron, 43, who is serving a substantial 23-year sentence, absconded from HMP Thorn Cross in Warrington on Monday evening.

Urgent Public Appeal and Description

Cheshire Police have issued an urgent appeal for information to locate Cameron, who was reported missing from the Category D adult male prison at 9.20pm on January 6, 2026. The force has warned the public not to approach him under any circumstances but to dial 999 immediately if he is sighted.

Cameron is described as a white male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and of medium build. His most distinguishing features are heavily receding hair and a ginger and grey beard. Police intelligence suggests he has extensive links to the Manchester, Liverpool, and Dorset areas.

Dangerous Offender on the Loose

The escapee is a dangerous individual, having been convicted for a serious attempted murder in Dorset back in 2016. His subsequent 23-year prison sentence underscores the severity of his crime. His current location and intentions are unknown, prompting a high-priority search operation.

Leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Nick Henderson of Cheshire Police's Serious and Organised Crime Unit stated: “We are appealing for the help of the public to trace Kieran Cameron, who is unlawfully at large after leaving HMP Thorn Cross in Warrington. If you see him, do not approach him, call 999 immediately.”

How to Report Information

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Cameron's whereabouts, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. You can contact the police by calling the non-emergency number 101 or by visiting the Cheshire Police website. When providing information, please quote the reference number IML 2247029.

The escape from the Category D, or open, prison raises immediate questions about security protocols and risk assessments for inmates. The search operation is concentrated in the North West but has national implications given the offender's connections and the gravity of his original offence.
