WWE Star's Ex Convicted of Attempted Femicide

The former partner of WWE star Stephanie Vaquer is reportedly facing decades behind bars after he was convicted of domestic violence and attempted femicide.

Guilty Verdict

Rogelio Reyes, a renowned wrestler known as 'El Cuatrero', was found guilty of trying to kill Vaquer by strangling her. The verdict was delivered in Mexico on Wednesday.

Details of the Attack

Chilean superstar Vaquer, a wrestling trailblazer who last year became the first female South American champion in WWE history, had previously reported the incident. In 2023, she claimed that Reyes grabbed her by the throat and threw her against a wall during a dispute. A painting then fell and struck Vaquer, causing further injury. According to Wrestling Inc, Vaquer was told that her trachea was nearly broken, and photos showed bruising on her neck.

Legal Consequences

According to El Heraldo De Mexico, attempted femicide carries a maximum sentence of 46 years in Mexico, while domestic violence is punishable by up to six years in prison. Reyes was arrested and charged in Mexico City in 2023 and remained behind bars until March 2025, when he secured a court injunction that allowed his release and return to wrestling. However, with the recent conviction, he is expected to be sentenced on Tuesday.

Reyes, who comes from a family of wrestlers, faces a significant prison term. The case highlights the serious issue of gender-based violence, with the United Nations defining femicide as 'an intentional killing with a gender-related motivation.'
