A construction worker has tragically died after falling from a building at Birmingham Children's Hospital. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 10am on Friday, July 10, 2026, following reports that a man had plunged from the construction site.
Incident Details
The man was working on a construction site at the hospital, operated by BSN Group Construction. Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust confirmed the incident, stating: "There has been an incident at a construction site at Birmingham Children's Hospital. And our sympathies are with the family and friends of the individual involved. Support is being provided to those who have been affected."
BSN Group Response
A representative for BSN Group Construction said: "We are saddened to confirm that a person has died following an incident at our construction site at Birmingham Children's Hospital on Friday, 10 July. Our thoughts are with their family, friends and colleagues at this extremely difficult time. We take health and safety very seriously, and we are assisting the police, the Health and Safety Executive and all relevant authorities with their enquiries. As investigations are ongoing, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage."
Police and HSE Investigation
West Midlands Police confirmed they were called to the hospital at just before 9.50am. A police spokesperson said: "The man was sadly confirmed dead a short time later and our thoughts are with his loved ones. We are liaising with the Health and Safety Executive as enquiries continue." The HSE is now leading an investigation into the circumstances of the fall.
Prince Harry's Visit
The incident occurred just one day after Prince Harry visited the hospital as part of a regional tour. He launched the year-countdown to the Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham in 2027.
