A woman's body has been discovered chained by the neck and weighted down with two concrete dumbbells at a popular fishing spot in Phang Nga, Thailand. Police are treating the incident as a suspected murder.
The grim find was made on Friday at Ban Tha Yai pier, where locals spotted the corpse floating in the water. Rescue workers and police arrived at the scene, and the victim, whose identity remains unknown, is believed to have been dead for around two days.
According to reports, the woman was wearing grey shorts and a brown round-neck T-shirt. A heavy chain was wrapped tightly around her neck, attached to two concrete dumbbells, in what appears to be an attempt to keep her submerged. However, the body eventually surfaced.
Police have sent the body for a full autopsy to determine the cause of death and whether she was alive when dumped. CCTV footage from the pier and nearby areas is being reviewed, and local authorities are checking for missing persons matching her description.
Police Lieutenant Pheerawit Chaichanyut stated, 'This is a serious case, and we are treating it as a possible murder. The way the body was weighted down points towards an attempt to conceal it.'
This discovery follows other similar incidents in Thailand, including a woman's body found in a locked suitcase weighted with dumbbells in Rayong, and a decomposed corpse reeled in by an angler in Pathum Thani.
