A woman in her 20s was rushed to hospital after being knocked down by a hit-and-run driver in Birmingham. The incident occurred on Foxton Road, Alum Rock, at approximately 1.30pm on Monday, 29 June, when a silver hatchback struck the pedestrian, sending her over the bonnet and onto the roadway. The driver failed to stop or check on her safety.
Collision Details and Emergency Response
CCTV footage shows the woman crossing the road as the car approached without slowing down. After the collision, the driver fled the scene. Bystanders quickly came to the woman's aid. Emergency services were called, and she was treated at the scene for serious injuries before being taken to Heartlands Hospital.
An ambulance spokeswoman confirmed: "We were called to reports of an RTC on Foxton Road in Birmingham at around 1.30pm on Monday and sent an ambulance to the scene. On arrival, crews found a car and a pedestrian had been involved in a collision. The pedestrian, a woman, was treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed to Heartlands Hospital."
Police Investigation and Appeal
West Midlands Police have launched an investigation to identify the driver and the vehicle. A force statement read: "We were called after a woman was struck by a car in Foxton Road, Birmingham, at just before 1.30pm on Monday (29 June). Officers attended and the woman in her 20s was treated by ambulance staff for injuries which are understood not to be life-changing. The car involved, believed to be a silver hatchback, failed to stop and enquiries are underway to identify and trace the vehicle and driver. Community Action on Road Safety
In response to the incident and a high volume of local complaints about dangerous driving, Zaheer Akbar from Alum Rock Community Forum, alongside a local PCSO, is establishing a 'Speed Watch' initiative to monitor and combat speeding vehicles in the area.
