A woman has been found dead at a hotel in central Liverpool, leading to the arrest of two people on suspicion of murder.
Police were called to The White Star Line Hotel on James Street by the North West Ambulance Service just after 3.20am on Saturday after paramedics reported that a 40-year-old woman had become unwell. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and her next of kin have been informed.
Arrests and bail
A 47-year-old man from Kirkby and a 34-year-old woman from Liverpool have been arrested on suspicion of murder. A 31-year-old man from Liverpool has also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three have been conditionally bailed while enquiries continue.
Investigation ongoing
The woman's death is being treated as unexplained. A post-mortem has been carried out to establish the cause of death, but the results are being withheld pending a toxicology report. Police forensic vans were seen outside the hotel on Sunday evening.
