A 40-year-old woman has died following an alleged assault outside a pub in North Shields. Emergency services were called to Russell Street shortly after 10pm on Saturday, where Lisa Denton was found with a serious head injury. She was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died the following morning.
A 19-year-old man, Liam Moor, of Telford Street in the East Howdon area, has been charged with one count of manslaughter. He appeared before Bedlington Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody. A woman in her 50s, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Police have named the victim as Lisa Denton, from the North Shields area. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. A cordon was initially placed outside Charlie's Bar on Russell Street but has since been removed.
Northumbria Police’s Major Investigation Team is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
