A 31-year-old woman from Barry has died following an alleged assault in Cardiff. The incident occurred on Saturday evening at Langham Way, City Gardens, Grangetown. Two women were injured and taken to hospital. The woman later died at the University Hospital of Wales.
Investigation and charges
South Wales Police confirmed the death on Wednesday. Forensic officers have been carrying out work at the scene. A post-mortem examination is due to take place. A man has been charged and was due to appear at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
Daniel McCarthy, 40, from Leckwith, faces two counts of assault and failing to stop a vehicle when required to do so by police. The second woman has been discharged from hospital.
Police statement
A police spokesperson said: "South Wales Police can confirm that a 31-year-old woman from Barry had died at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, following an incident in Langham Way, Leckwith, Cardiff. Next of kin has been informed."
"A post-mortem examination is due to take place, and further enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause and circumstances of her death."
Police were called to the property at around 7.40pm on Saturday, August 1. An investigation is ongoing.
