A 48-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving following a three-vehicle collision in Sunderland that left one person in hospital. The incident occurred on Dame Dorothy Street in the Roker area, with emergency services called just before 6.20pm yesterday.
Arrest and custody
The woman was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody, Northumbria Police confirmed. The force is appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
A police spokesperson said: "Shortly before 6.20pm yesterday (Tuesday), we received a report of a three-vehicle collision on Dame Dorothy Street in the Roker area of Sunderland. Emergency services attended and a woman was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries."
Road closure and appeal
The driver of the vehicle, a 48-year-old woman, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. She currently remains in custody.
A section of the road was closed for a short period to allow for vehicle recovery and has since reopened. Police are asking anyone with information, dashcam footage, or CCTV to contact them via social media, live chat, or report forms on the force website.
