A 29-year-old Australian woman is fighting for her life after collapsing unexpectedly while on holiday in Bali. Luca Loveday was standing in a local restaurant when she began shaking and fell, hitting her head on a table and then the concrete floor.
She suffered multiple brain bleeds, a fractured skull, brain swelling, and air in her brain. She remains in intensive care in Bali, with her family by her side.
Her sister, Rikki Loveday, told news.com.au that the cause of the collapse is still unknown. Doctors are considering possibilities such as a seizure, sudden fainting, or humidity. The family is trying to obtain CCTV footage from the venue.
Rikki described the experience as overwhelming, particularly navigating a medical emergency in a foreign country. Luca's insurance does not cover her treatment, so the family has set up a GoFundMe to cover ICU care, ongoing treatment, and eventual medical repatriation to Australia.
Rikki said her sister is 'one of the kindest, caring and most vibrant people you could meet' and that the family is taking things one day at a time. Luca remains in Bali until she is stable enough to travel.
