A 19-year-old woman has tragically died after being struck by a car in a shopping centre carpark in Perth's eastern suburbs.
Incident Details
Emergency services were called to the Bentley Plaza carpark, situated off Albany Highway and John Street, at approximately 11:30 PM on Saturday. The teenager was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital by ambulance but later succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the blue Hyundai i30 hatchback, also a 19-year-old man, has assisted police with their inquiries. Authorities are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
Witness Account
Mark Bulagsak, who was inside the shopping centre at the time of the collision, returned to the carpark to find his vehicle had been damaged in the incident. His car's boot suffered significant impact.
“I went to Spudshed for like five, six or eight minutes and when I came out there was already an ambulance,” he told the West Australian. “I walked out towards my car and I saw there was some damage to the rear part of my car, and there were paramedics giving someone CPR.”
Bulagsak noted he did not hear the collision as he was on a call with his girlfriend. He expressed feeling fortunate, stating, “I could have been in the car.”
Investigation Ongoing
Forensic officers remained at the scene on Sunday morning. The Hyundai was observed being towed away around 9 AM, displaying severe damage to its front end. The investigation into the circumstances of the crash continues.
