A Maryland man has been taken into custody after driving his vehicle through security barriers near the White House, triggering an immediate response from the Secret Service in a dramatic security breach.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the driver, identified as 26-year-old Sair Mammadov from Gaithersburg, Maryland, allegedly crashed his Honda Accord through protective barricades on Pennsylvania Avenue.
Immediate Security Response
Secret Service officers stationed at the scene swiftly apprehended Mammadov after his vehicle came to a stop. According to officials, the driver made no attempt to flee and was taken into custody without resistance.
"The individual was immediately detained by our uniformed division officers," a Secret Service spokesperson confirmed. "At no point was the White House complex itself breached."
Investigation Underway
Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the motive behind the security breach. While initial reports suggest the incident may have been alcohol-related, investigators are exploring all possibilities.
The area surrounding the White House remains heavily fortified with multiple layers of security, including reinforced barriers, vehicle checkpoints, and constant surveillance. This incident marks one of the most significant breaches of the security perimeter in recent months.
Previous Security Concerns
This is not the first security scare at the White House complex. The incident recalls previous breaches that have prompted ongoing reviews and enhancements to the protective measures around the presidential residence.
Security experts emphasize that while such incidents are concerning, the multiple layers of protection ensure that direct access to the White House remains extremely difficult for unauthorized individuals.
