Wheelchair User Dies in Bradford Car Crash

A 50-year-old man in a wheelchair has died after a car mounted the kerb in Bradford city centre on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred on Market Street at approximately 3:22 pm when a blue Nissan Qashqai pulled away from traffic lights and struck the pedestrianised zone, hitting the man and two other pedestrians.

Victims and Injuries

The wheelchair user was pronounced dead at the scene. A 31-year-old man sustained serious head injuries and remains in hospital, though his condition is not life-threatening. A 13-year-old boy suffered minor injuries.

Driver Detained and Bailed

The driver, a 30-year-old Bradford man, was detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and other traffic offences. He has been bailed pending further investigations, according to the Express.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Detective Sergeant Nina Roper, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: "Multiple enquiries remain ongoing into this very serious incident which has sadly resulted in a man losing his life, and another man suffering serious injuries. We are investigating the exact circumstances of the collision, including why the Nissan mounted the kerb, and would like to speak to anyone who saw or has footage of what happened or of the Nissan beforehand."
