A major police investigation has been launched in the heart of London after a woman was found fatally stabbed in a Westminster flat.
The Metropolitan Police were called to the residential building just after 10:30 AM on Thursday, responding to urgent concerns for a woman's welfare.
Upon forcing entry, officers discovered a horrific scene: a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. Despite the rapid response from paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Man Arrested at the Scene
A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder inside the same property. He was taken into custody, where he remains for questioning by specialist detectives from the Met's Homicide Command.
While formal identification and a post-mortem examination are pending, detectives are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the death. They believe the suspect and victim were known to each other.
Forensic Teams Scour the Scene
The area around the flat has been sealed off as a crime scene. Forensic officers in white suits have been meticulously combing the property for evidence throughout the day.
A visible police cordon remains in place, with officers stationed outside the building to reassure the local community, which has been left shocked by the violent incident on their doorstep.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated: "We are in the early stages of our investigation. We believe this to be an isolated incident involving people known to each other."
