The third trial of former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein on a New York rape charge is set to begin with opening statements on Tuesday. The trial follows four days of jury selection, which concluded on Friday, resulting in a panel of seven men and five women who will decide the case.
Weinstein, 73, has pleaded not guilty to the charge that he raped a woman in a Manhattan hotel in 2013. The trial is expected to last up to four weeks.
The Oscar-winning producer has spent much of the past decade embroiled in sexual assault cases in New York and Los Angeles. He was previously convicted in both cities, but his initial 2020 conviction in New York was overturned. A retrial last year ended with a deadlocked jury on the rape charge, though a mixed verdict was reached on sexual assault charges involving two other women.
Weinstein denies all allegations and has appealed his various convictions. He has been incarcerated for six years to date.
