Zherko Rasul Osman, 24, has been named as the victim of a fatal stabbing in Levenshulme. He suffered serious stab wounds in an attack on Chapel Street on Saturday night and died at the scene.
His identity was released by his family tonight as Greater Manchester Police confirmed a second suspect has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The suspect, 23, remains in police custody tonight being questioned by officers.
Second arrest and ongoing investigation
It follows the arrest of another man, 27, on suspicion of murder. He was released on bail pending further enquiries after being questioned by detectives.
Police were called to reports of a man who suffered serious stab wounds on Chapel Street at around 7.06pm on Saturday, August 15. He died at the scene despite the 'best efforts of emergency services personnel' to save him, according to GMP.
Scene and family support
A forensic tent was erected within Chapel Street park, which was closed off to the public following the attack. Tactical Aid Unit (TAU) officers carried out fingertip searches of the area.
The victim has now been named by his family as 24-year-old Zherko Rasul Osman. His family 'are being supported by specialist officers at this time', according to the force. Friends have told the Manchester Evening News he was originally from Kurdistan.
