A hearse carrying a coffin has been attacked with bricks while en route to a funeral in Edinburgh, in what funeral directors have described as a 'disgraceful' act.
The incident occurred on March 13 as the vehicle was travelling to Warriston Crematorium. Multiple stones were thrown, shattering the rear window. The attack continued even after funeral staff pulled over and exited the vehicle.
Porteous Family Funeral Directors stated that the attack was believed to be random, as the hearse was on a diversion due to roadworks, meaning those responsible could not have known it would be on that road at that time. They condemned the act as 'shocking' and deeply distressing for the bereaved family and staff.
A spokesperson said: 'This shocking act of vandalism to our hearse has been deeply distressing. It shows not only a total disregard for our bereaved family but has also had a significant emotional impact on our staff.'
Police Scotland confirmed they are investigating the incident and are urging anyone with information or dash cam footage to come forward.
