Urgent police appeal after shots fired in Oldham

Police are urgently appealing for information after shots were fired on Lovage Drive in Oldham, damaging a parked car. No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

Incident details

Officers were called at around 9.35am on Monday, October 26 to reports of a firearms discharge on Lovage Drive. Greater Manchester Police said the shots are believed to have been fired at around 9.50pm on Sunday, October 25. The discharge caused damage to the rear of a vehicle that was parked on the street at the time.

A scene remained in place throughout the day as investigations continued. No arrests have been made at this stage.

Residents' accounts

Neighbours on Lovage Drive said they heard 'two bangs' between around 9.30pm and 10pm on Sunday. They mistook the bangs for fireworks being let off as Storm Boelo battered the area with strong winds and heavy rain.

On Monday, one resident said a neighbour knocked on the door 'saying their car window had been smashed in'. The resident told the Manchester Evening News: "My husband said 'I'm no forensics expert, but I'm pretty sure those are bullet holes' and said we should contact the police."

Police then flooded the scene and put a cordon in place across a stretch of Lovage Drive. Tactical Aid Unit officers and crime scene investigators were spotted carrying out searches and placing evidence markers within the taped off area. Pictures showed a black car within the cordon with a damaged rear window, which was reportedly taken from the scene by police on Tuesday morning.

Police appeal

Extra patrol officers have been deployed around the local area - both on foot and in patrol cars - If you have any concerns about this incident, our officers will be happy to provide reassurance and listen to any of your queries.

"I cannot stress how important it is for the public to come forward if they have any information that could assist our investigation, whether it be CCTV footage, doorbell footage, photos, or descriptions of the suspects or events, we would ask that you report it to us directly."
