UAB Football Player Charged with Attempted Murder After Stabbing Teammates

A University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) football player has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing two teammates on Saturday morning, hours before the team's scheduled game against the University of South Florida.

The university confirmed the incident in a statement, saying both injured players are in stable condition. The suspect, also a player, remains in custody as an investigation continues. UAB did not release the names of those involved, citing patient privacy and the ongoing probe.

According to AL.com, the suspect faces charges of aggravated assault and attempted murder. The stabbing occurred at the Football Operations Building on campus.

Despite the incident, the team decided to play the afternoon game at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, where 29 players were honoured on Senior Day. Interim head coach Alex Mortensen said a small number of players chose not to participate. UAB lost the game 48-18 to South Florida.
