A quiet morning in regional Victoria turned to tragedy when two police officers were fatally shot in the small town of Porepunkah, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Melbourne.

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton confirmed the devastating outcome: "It is with tremendous sadness that I confirm two of our police officers have been killed in the line of duty. They were simply doing their job, protecting the community."
