Two men are in hospital with gunshot wounds after what police have described as a 'targeted attack' on a residential street in Prescot. Officers were called to Pottery Lane, adjacent to Stadt Moers Park, on Sunday afternoon following reports of a shooting.
Police Investigation Underway
Both victims have been taken to hospital, and detectives are carrying out 'urgent CCTV' checks to identify the perpetrators. Local residents have been asked to avoid the area as police work continues.
Detective Superintendent Paul Speight expressed shock that a weapon was fired in a residential area on a Sunday afternoon, calling it 'beyond comprehension.' He stated: 'I want to make it clear to anyone involved that our determination to find those responsible will be absolute, and we will target anyone who has carried out this shooting, or assisted those responsible in any way.'
Community Appeal
Mr. Speight highlighted that gun crime in Merseyside has become increasingly rare in recent years, attributing this to community engagement and partnership work. He urged the public to come forward with any information.
'This same community strength will help us in the coming days,' he added. 'If you saw, heard or may have captured anything on CCTV, dashcam or doorbell devices, please come forward at the earliest opportunity.'
Police believe the attack was targeted, and investigations are in the early stages to establish a motive.
