Two drivers have tragically lost their lives in a motorway crash in Scotland, following an incident where a car was reportedly travelling in the wrong direction on the carriageway, according to police statements. The fatal collision occurred on the M90 near Kinross, a town within the Perth and Kinross area, at approximately 10.30pm on Friday evening.

Details of the Fatal Incident

Police Scotland confirmed that a grey Ford Kuga was observed driving northwards on the southbound carriageway near junction seven. This vehicle then collided head-on with a white Vauxhall Corsa, which was correctly positioned on the southbound part of the motorway. The impact resulted in both drivers sustaining fatal injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Kuga was identified as a 44-year-old man, while the driver of the Vauxhall Corsa was a 20-year-old man. Authorities have not released their names, pending notification of next of kin.

Police Investigation and Appeal

An investigation is currently underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding this tragic crash. Police Scotland have issued an urgent appeal for any witnesses or individuals with dashcam footage that could assist in the inquiry.

Ch Insp Lyne Williamson, from Police Scotland’s operational support division, expressed condolences, stating: "My thoughts are with the families of both the men who died following this tragic incident. An investigation is under way to establish the full circumstances of the crash. Anyone who was travelling on the M90 at the time and witnessed what happened, or has dashcam footage that could assist our inquiries, is asked to contact officers as soon as possible."

Motorway Closure and Impact

To facilitate the investigation, the M90 was closed southbound between junctions six and seven for approximately 16 hours. This closure caused significant disruption to traffic in the region, highlighting the severity of the incident and the thoroughness of the police response.
