Two arrested after violent e-bike robbery in Gorton

Two 19-year-old men have been arrested following a violent e-bike robbery in Gorton, with dramatic body-cam footage capturing the moment police detained them.

Officers received reports of a robbery on Hyde Road just after 1.20pm on Monday (October 19). The suspects reportedly approached the victim and 'produced an angle grinder' before 'violently' stealing an e-bike.

Police chase and arrests

Officers on patrol in the area arrived within a minute and quickly found the suspects. They were spotted riding a moped and the suspected stolen e-bike, Greater Manchester Police said. Following a short chase, both males abandoned the bikes and tried to flee on foot.

The footage captured officers screaming 'get on the floor now' as one of the masked suspects was tasered. The second man, who was also wearing a balaclava, appeared to run through a park before he was detained on the ground.

Further offences

Both were arrested on suspicion of robbery and have been taken into custody for questioning. One of the males was also wanted in connection with separate offences of robbery, possession of an offensive weapon and breaching a court order, GMP added.
