The father of a 13-year-old boy who drowned in a reservoir in West Yorkshire has made a heartfelt plea to the two individuals who attempted to rescue his son, urging them to come forward so he can thank them personally.
Alan Damon Robinson took to social media to appeal to the 'two lads' who jumped into the water at Leadbeater Dam near Halifax on Monday. He wrote: 'To the lads that jumped in please message me so I can come down and shake your hands... You tried, I need to shake your hands.'
The teenager, named locally as Reco Puttock, got into difficulty at the popular swimming spot amid the record-breaking heatwave. Emergency services were called at 3.18pm, and the boy was pulled from the water and taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Flowers and tributes have been left at the scene, with messages reading 'RIP Reco. Miss you millions' and 'You will be forever missed'. His mother described him as a loving son who enjoyed spending time with his friends and was especially close to his older sister.
West Yorkshire Police have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and enquiries are ongoing. The tragedy is one of several water-related deaths across the UK over the bank holiday weekend, including a man in his 60s who died while trying to save family members in Cornwall.
