Three teenagers have been charged with murder following the death of a 49-year-old man described by his grieving family as having a "heart of gold".
Discovery and Arrests
Cleveland Police were called to a property on Egglescliffe Close in the Hardwick area of Stockton at approximately 6.50pm on Saturday, 10 January. Officers discovered the body of David Cuthbert at the scene.
The force launched an immediate investigation, leading to the arrest of three young men on suspicion of murder that same day. The suspects were identified as Layton Lightfoot, 18, from Middlesbrough; Charlie Wilcock, 19, of no fixed address; and Jesse Reaney, 18, from Hartlepool.
Charges Brought After Questioning
Following extensive questioning in custody, detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) formally charged all three individuals with murder on Monday, 12 January.
All three accused were remanded in custody and were scheduled to make their first appearance at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 13 January. The charges directly relate to the incident on Egglescliffe Close where Mr Cuthbert was found deceased.
A Family's Heartbreaking Tribute
In a poignant statement released through the police, the family of David Cuthbert paid an emotional tribute to a beloved man. They described him as a "kind, loving, fun man with a heart of gold" who was "always smiling and making people laugh".
"David was loved by so many and would do anything for anyone," the family's message continued. "We as a family are so grateful for the love and support we are receiving. And even more so thankful to Cleveland Police. All our hearts are broken. We all love you so much David."
Cleveland Police confirmed that Mr Cuthbert's family is being supported by specially trained officers from the investigation team.
