Thomas Markle Senior's first wife is reportedly the one who sent a letter to the Metropolitan Police in 2019 airing her concerns about Meghan Markle's father. Just days ago, it was revealed that Meghan Markle's estranged dad is under investigation after accusations of having child sex abuse images. Thomas Sr. has denied these claims.
Meghan's statement on the letter
After the news came to light just days ago, Meghan released a statement revealing that she had been shown the letter by police about her father years ago. She claimed the letter contained some accusations against him. The Duchess said she was assured that investigations would be carried out.
She also claimed it was the accusations against her father that led her to decide not to let him meet her children.
Who is Roslyn Markle?
The exact details of the letter have not been disclosed; however, it is believed that it was written by Thomas Markle's first wife, Roslyn Markle, also known as Roslyn Loveless. Roslyn married Thomas Sr. in 1964 and divorced 10 years later, in 1974. They had two children together - Meghan's half-siblings, Samantha and Thomas Junior.
It is not known if Roslyn, who died in 2024, remarried. However, according to an admission by her daughter Samantha, she was a "chronic alcoholic".
Letter details and allegations
Samantha told The Daily Mail that her mum would have written the letter out of "hatred and bitterness" towards her ex-husband. Meghan's half-sister claims that Roslyn was bitter Thomas Sr left her and "had a successful career".
According to ITV, it is believed Roslyn wrote the letter in 2019 and sent it to a specialist unit of the Metropolitan Police called the Fixated Threat Assessment Centre. The letter was handwritten by the mother of two and, according to ITV, consisted of half a dozen pages. She accused her ex-husband of being a paedophile and sleeping with minors in Asia.
Thomas Sr. has denied all the allegations and told The Mail on Sunday that he has never slept with anyone under the age of 18.
The police in the Philippines are believed to be investigating the accusations, which follow a report by Thomas Jr. that he found boxes of child sex abuse images at his father's Philippines home, which Thomas Sr. left last year after ill-health. Thomas Sr. now lives in a care facility in the US. He denies accusations against him.
