Metropolitan Police have arrested a man on suspicion of terrorism offences following a major security operation near Wembley Stadium on Monday night.
The 31-year-old suspect was detained by specialist counter-terrorism officers after members of the public alerted police to suspicious activity in the area. The arrest took place on Empire Way, a major thoroughfare leading directly to the national stadium.
Armed officers and detectives from the Met's Counter Terrorism Command swooped on the location following the tip-off. A significant police presence remained at the scene throughout the evening as forensic examinations were conducted.
"The man was arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism," a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed. "He has been taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody."
While the exact nature of the alleged plot remains unclear, the timing and location of the arrest—near one of the country's most iconic sporting venues—has raised serious concerns. Wembley Stadium has a capacity of 90,000 and regularly hosts major football matches, concerts, and events.

London Ambulance Service confirmed they were on standby near the scene as a precautionary measure, though their services were not required.
