Two Teenagers Sentenced to Life for Racist Murder of Father in Barry

Two teenagers have been handed life sentences for the murder of a "loving" husband and father in a horrific racist attack in Barry, South Wales. Kamran Rasool Aman, aged 38, was fatally stabbed through the heart with a kitchen knife during an unprovoked assault while he was getting into his car.

Details of the Attack and Court Proceedings

The teenage defendants, aged 16 and 17, targeted Mr Aman in a random act of violence. The court heard that the 16-year-old, who cannot be named due to his age, had been drinking and declared he would "stab and murder" someone, swearing on his dead grandfather's grave. The 17-year-old, Marcus Staniforth, had a restriction on naming him lifted by a judge because he is close to his 18th birthday.

Prosecutor Owen Edwards KC stated that the 16-year-old spotted Mr Aman from a window and, after Mr Aman briefly looked at him, shouted, "What you looking at bro?" before punching his own head. The teenager then announced he was "going to beat people up," with Staniforth agreeing to back him up.

Mr Edwards emphasized that Kamran Rasool Aman had done nothing to provoke the attack and was entirely unaware of why he was targeted. He described the victim as being in the wrong place at the wrong time, facing mortal peril from the defendants' violent rage.

Sentencing and Aftermath

The teenagers denied murder but admitted to manslaughter. However, they were convicted of murder following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court on December 23 last year. On February 20, both were sentenced to life in prison.

The court noted the aggression shown by the 16-year-old was obvious to all witnesses, including Staniforth, who chose to support him despite the clear danger. This case highlights the tragic consequences of racist violence and unprovoked attacks in communities.

Kamran Rasool Aman is remembered as a devoted family man, whose life was cut short in a senseless act. The sentencing brings some closure, but the impact of this crime continues to resonate in Barry and beyond.
