A 19-year-old woman has died after being attacked by a dog described by relatives as a 'family pet' that 'slept on her bed'. The incident occurred at a property in Leaden Roding, near Dunmow, Essex, on Friday evening.
Essex Police were called to the scene at 10.45pm and found the victim, named locally as Jamie-Lea Biscoe, with serious injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The dog, believed to be a seven-year-old lurcher, has been seized by police.
A relative, Tina Wells, said on Facebook: 'She slept on my granddaughter's bed. It's devastating.' Another relative wrote: 'Our darling Jamie-Lea rip our girl.' Neighbours expressed shock, with one saying: 'It's really tragic. I feel for the whole family.'
A 37-year-old man from Dunmow has been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death. He remains in custody. Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper said: 'My thoughts are with the loved ones of the woman who died.'
