A 17-year-old girl has died at Kendal Calling festival in the Lake District after suffering a medical episode in the early hours of Sunday. North West Ambulance Service was called to the site at 2.13am on 2 August, and despite paramedics administering CPR, the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
Cumbria Constabulary confirmed the death followed a "medical episode" and said an investigation is under way.
Police statement
In a statement, the force said: "Emergency services were called to the Kendal Calling festival site at 2.13am this morning, August 2, 2026, following reports of a teenage girl suffering a medical episode. Officers and colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service attended. Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, including the administration of CPR, a 17-year-old girl was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. Her family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding her death are ongoing."
Appeal for witnesses
Police are keen to speak to anyone who was near the Calling Out tent and the Big Wheel at around 2am, or anyone with information that may assist the investigation. They are particularly keen to trace a group of women who alerted first responders after becoming concerned for the girl's welfare.
