A 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murdering 13-year-old Lucy McHugh in Southampton has been released on bail. He is also suspected of sexual activity with a child and has been ordered not to enter the city while on bail.
Lucy's body was found stabbed to death in woodland near Southampton Sports Centre on Thursday. Police said she left her home in Mansel Road East at 09:30 the previous day and did not return as expected.
Detective Superintendent Paul Barton appealed for information, saying the investigation continues and community help is vital. He urged people to avoid speculation on social media, as it detracts from the murder inquiry.
A crowdfunding page set up to help fund Lucy's funeral has raised more than £6,000. Her school, Redbridge Community School, expressed devastation, with headteacher Jason Ashley extending sympathies to family and friends.
Officers have released images of clothing Lucy was wearing, including a black Falling in Reverse jacket and large hooped earrings, and are appealing for any sharp implements found in the area.
